The unit opened in 2004 within the Social Services Directorate to accommodate mothers accompanying premature and newborn babies receiving inpatient treatment.
It also supports mothers of children receiving care in pediatric surgery, burn, liver transplantation and other intensive-care services. The 24-bed unit hosts approximately 500–600 mothers each year.
Support and Education
The unit provides a safe accommodation environment together with education and psychosocial support. Mothers receive guidance appropriate to their child's care process, and the unit is monitored outside regular working hours in coordination with the supervising nursing team.
