Pulmonary rehabilitation is a comprehensive treatment approach for patients whose chronic respiratory disease continues to limit breathing, exercise capacity and daily life despite appropriate medical therapy.
Following a detailed assessment, an individualized program is prepared. The program may include supervised exercise, respiratory training, patient education, nutritional and psychosocial support, and strategies that help patients adopt lasting health behaviors.
Objectives
- Reduce breathlessness and improve exercise tolerance
- Support independence in daily activities
- Improve quality of life and treatment adherence
- Teach effective breathing, energy-conservation and disease-management techniques
