Small Intestine Transplantation
The small intestine transplantation program is coordinated by transplant surgeons and supported by gastroenterology, pathology, anesthesiology, cardiology, interventional radiology, infectious diseases, tissue-typing specialists, transplant nurses and transplant coordinators.
Our center has performed deceased-donor small intestine transplantation since 2015 and serves as a national referral center for patients with intestinal failure. Each patient is reviewed by the transplant council before an individualized treatment and follow-up plan is prepared.
Pancreas Transplantation
Pancreas transplantation may be considered for appropriately selected patients with severe insulin-dependent diabetes, particularly when advanced kidney disease is also present. Candidates undergo detailed medical and surgical assessment, and the transplant option is determined by the multidisciplinary council.
Care continues after discharge through regular clinical and laboratory monitoring, medication management, nutritional support and patient education.
