LIVER TRANSPLANTATION
The Institute of Liver Transplantation operates under the roof of the General Surgical Main Branch of Science attached to the medical faculty and is the first institute in the world to operate solely in the field of liver transplantation and has a separate hospital building. The Institute of Liver Transplantation, one of our country's most important projects in the field of health, is located on the main campus of our University, Turgut Ozal Medical Center Ground and 1. Serves in a modern building with 6 Floors (-1+Z+4 Floors) with a total of 20500 m2 of covered space built on 3210 m2
Liver transplant operations have been performed at the General Surgical Main Science Branch since 2002, and the Liver Transplant Institute was officially established in 2011 and opened for use in 2016. The Institute of Liver Transplantation is the largest liver transplantation center in Turkey. Within the institute there are faculty members from the main branches of General Surgery, Anesthesiology, Radiology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Pediatric Gastroenterology, specialist doctors, clinical and surgical nurses and health personnel.
The institute has a total capacity of 152 beds, including 10 operating rooms, 7 service units with 116 beds and 3 intensive care units with 36 beds, a cell and tissue laboratory, a liver transplant and liver disease polyclinic, an endoscopy and ERCP unit, an angiography unit and a computed tomography unit.
Services
The liver transplantation institute has a total of 7 services, one for gastroenterology and one for paediatric transplantation patients. All service rooms serve as a single person. The total patient capacity of the services is 116 . Each service is followed by two general surgeons. Polyclinics
Patients with liver transplants are checked and examined by appointment at the institute's polyclinic. In addition, all patients with chronic liver disease who may be transplanted benefit from outpatient services. Patients with liver transplants need to be checked regularly because of their inappropriate treatment. These patients are also being evaluated by the Gastroenterological Polyclinic.
YOĞUN BAKIMLAR
There are 12 separate room intensive care units for each patient, where adult and pediatric liver transplants are followed in the postoperative period. Intensive care patients with liver transplants are subjected to daily doping ultrasound by the radiology department. The purpose of this imaging is to check the major vascular structures after a liver transplant.
Endoscopic unit
In patients with liver transplantation and chronic liver patients, ERCP is performed by Gastroenterology for the initiation of endoscopic and bile pathways. These procedures are most often performed in patients with liver transplants in terms of complications of the GI tract and the risk of bleeding in chronic liver disease.
Angiography unit
In patients with liver transplantation or chronic liver disease, invasive angiography may be performed in the radiology unit. In particular, initiatives are being undertaken for pathologies of the spinal cord. In addition, intravenous chemotherapeutic procedures for patients with liver cancer
is being implemented.
The operating room
There are a total of 10 operating rooms, or 10 simultaneous surgeries. There are 25 faculty members who are experts in liver surgery. The anesthesia clinic employs main science faculty members and assistants, anesthesia technicians, surgical nurses and surgical staff.
In the operating rooms, liver transplants are performed as well as comprehensive and complex liver surgeries. These include live and cadaver liver transplants, donor hepatotomies, liver resections for patients with liver cancer, and various other operations. Since our country's cadaver donation is relatively low, more live liver transplants are being performed.
CELL AND TISSUE LABORATORIES
The institute has a single cell laboratory. Various artificial tissue cultures can be produced in the laboratory. There's also an electron microscope in the lab. With the approval of the ethical council, new studies on liver tissue can be carried out on a variety of diseases. For example, different tissues can be produced from surgically extracted tissues on cell cultures, and different studies can be done at the molecular level. The laboratories that serve this area,
