Bone marrow transplantation is a life-saving treatment used to restore healthy marrow function in children with leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndromes, aplastic anemia, thalassemia, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, congenital immune deficiencies, selected solid tumors, metabolic disorders and other blood diseases.
At the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation Center of Inonu University Turgut Ozal Medical Center, every patient is evaluated by the transplant council. According to the diagnosis and clinical condition, autologous, related-donor allogeneic or unrelated-donor transplantation may be planned.
Multidisciplinary Care
The transplantation process includes donor and recipient assessment, compatibility testing, preparation for transplantation, stem-cell infusion, infection prevention, nutritional support and close post-transplant follow-up. Pediatric hematology, infectious diseases, intensive care, laboratory services, nursing and psychosocial support teams work together throughout the process.
